A Rights-based Approach to Civil Society and Public Interest Law in China

USALI Dialogue January 30, 2013: Public interest lawyer Jia Ping and civil society activist Zhang Tao will share their insider’s perspective on challenges facing civil society leaders and public interest lawyers in China. Mr. Jia and Ms. Zhang will give an introduction to civil society and legal development in China over the past two decades, followed by insights into their pioneering efforts to found the Health Governance Initiative, one of China’s first ‘watchdog’ nongovernmental organizations. Their inspirational account of how the health sector has become an entry point for a rights-based approach to accountable governance has wide implications for the future of China’s civil society development.
