2020 Summer Internships at the U.S.-Asia Law Institute

2020 Summer Internships at the U.S.-Asia Law Institute

Every summer, USALI seeks several interns from NYU Law School and other law schools to join our vibrant community and support the legal research of the Institute. We look for candidates who have excellent research and writing ability, demonstrated capacity to contribute to team projects, the ability to work independently, and with a genuine interest in the legal, social, and political challenges of Asia. We also welcome candidates with language ability in any of Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, or Korean to apply.

This internship provides an excellent opportunity for practical and hands-on legal research experience, close mentorship and career advice, the opportunity to development independent research with guidance from USALI staff, and a connection with a community of legal scholars, academics, and professionals committed to understanding the Rule of Law in Asia. The law school interns will track and research current legal developments in Asia; write, edit, and translate documents. The intern will also be involved in the day-to-day life of the Institute.

Note for NYU Law Interns Seeking PILC Funding

NYU's USALI is an eligible not-for-profit under the PILC internship funding program. For current 1L and 2L students at NYU School of Law, funding is available from NYU's PILC office for students wishing to commit to an internship of 8-10 weeks in duration, with at least 35 hours per week. USALI will happily provide any necessary supporting documentation to successful applicants, who will have received offers prior to the NYU PILC Summer Funding April 6, 2020 deadline.

Testimonials from Former Interns

I was extremely happy to be part of USALI this summer. I had been extremely interested in USALI’s work since I read about it online and I think it is an extremely relevant and innovative institution. I sincerely appreciated being included in the program despite being a non-traditional graduate student intern. I felt this was a very valuable experience which allowed me to meet some of the leading lawyers and professionals in this field. —Former Intern (2018)

My brief summer internship with the USALI is an eye-opening experience. USALI is a loving community that would push you to reflect on unfolding legal issues surrounding Asia. Throughout this internship, I also benefited a ton from my supervisors and coworkers, who have constantly helped me to find fresh angles in understanding the rule of law in Asia. Partaking this internship inspired me to keep up with Asia and encouraged me to take a more active role to help the English-speaking world understand legal developments in Asia in the future.—Former Intern (2019)

This internship has really expanded my knowledge on international law through research, the weekly situation rooms, and from all research scholars in the office. .—Former Intern (2019)
