The week January 15 to 20 was a busy week in Taiwan for our ten-member committee of international human rights specialists who were invited by the ROC Government to review its progress in implementing the two major UN human rights covenants. Please follow this link for media coverage on the luncheon for members of the international review committee for the Second National Reports of ICCPR and ICESCR hosted by President Tsai Ing-wen.
This was the second such review, the first having been in 2013. Please click the link to read more on the evaluation of Taiwan's First National Reports of ICCPR and ICESCR. It was an impressive exercise and culminated in a stimulating lunch with ROC President Ms. Ing-wen TSAI. After lunch my wife, Joan Lebold Cohen, who specializes in Asian art history and photography, my very able colleague, Ms. Yu-jie CHEN, who just received her doctorate in law from NYU, and I spent another hour exchanging ideas with President Tsai.
