U.S.-Asia Law Institute Director Jose Alvarez Honored by ASIL

The American Society of International Law is awarding its highest honor, the Manley O. Hudson Medal, to U.S.-Asia Law Institute Faculty Director José E. Alvarez in 2024. The award is given to distinguished persons of American or other nationality for outstanding contributions to scholarship and achievement in international law. The presentation will take place at the Society’s 118th Annual Meeting in Washington, DC on April 4, 2024.

Alvarez is the Herbert and Rose Rubin Professor of International Law at NYU School of Law, where he researches and teaches foreign investment law, international criminal law and courts, international organizations, and public international law. His latest book, co-authored with Judith Bauder, is Women’s Property Rights Under CEDAW (forthcoming, OUP). He is a member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, the Institut de Droit International, and the Council on Foreign Relations. He is also a former president of the American Society of International Law and previous co-editor-in-chief of the American Journal of International Law.
