Training and Advocacy for
Procedural Safeguards in Criminal Cases

This project was structured around four development workshops, each considering a major stage of the criminal process: investigation, indictment, trial and appellate review. The workshops created forums for professionals from different branches of the legal system to collaboratively devise potential reforms for that stage. To raise awareness of international due process norms and requirements, we invited foreign experts to present comparative and international law perspectives. Cooperating with policy makers and other key stakeholders to develop comprehensive revisions to the Criminal Procedure Law, we emphasized compliance with international human rights law standards, independent judicial review and the development of a robust criminal defense practice.
